Welcome to Splatoon Fanon! We're so glad to have you, whether as a reader or a contributor. This page will serve as a guide for how this site works, and how YOU can participate! ==What is Fanon?==
Fanon is short for "Fan Canon" (or sometimes Fan-Fiction), meaning that it is unofficial content about a particular franchise or existing work. In the context of this site, this means for the Splatoon franchise. This can manifest in a large variety of ways, such as written fan-fiction, hypothetical media (games, movies, shows, etc), song remixes, original characters, merchandise, or others.

==How does it work here?==
Users have great freedom to design pages to look how they want, what information to display, or what they contain. Some pages might be more encyclopedic, such as characters or locations, similar to how a regular wiki page might look. Other pages might be more script-like, or full of personal, subjective, or otherwise point-of-view writing. We provide some templates to help get started, for common things such as infoboxes, navigation boxes, or linking. Users are also able to make their own, for their convenience.

For those that don't fit the criteria of any of these namespaces, omit it. This area, usually called the "mainspace", is more of a miscellaneous section for this site.

Once a namespace is selected, the page needs a name! This can be whatever it needs to be, as long as it is appropriate and not excessively long. In the event two people (or more) would like to use the same name for a page covering different topics, the pages are split, adding a discriminator tag (discrim for short) to the end. The "regular" page then becomes a disambiguation page to help clarify which location people actually intended to go.

For example, if there are two people naming a character Judith, then the pages would look something like this:

**Character:Judith (Squidman)
**Character:Judith (Octogal)

From there, writers are free to add whatever they'd like! All pages written by a user generally belong to that user. If you didn't personally write a page, you really shouldn't touch it unless you were asked to, or something is significantly broken and needs repair in order to display or function properly.

Much like a cluster of grapes, Splatoon Fanon is full of people's own individual work, connected through the same vine. While some material and navigation is the same across the platform, everyone tends to have their own individual space to work with.

==What's permitted and what isn't?==
Writers are encouraged to submit their own, original, appropriate material for the site. This could manifest as game ideas, character creations, movie plotlines, weapon mechanics and new specials, and so much more.

Content should primarily resolve around the Splatoon franchise. Other franchises, such as Super Mario, are permitted to exist and have dedicated pages, as long as they are used less than the Splatoon content within a given work.

Talking about other people's ideas is permitted through the use of talk pages, which allows users to complement ideas, ask clarifying questions, or make suggestions. Comments left should range from constructive to positive—no putting others down. More casual discussion should be held on Discord or through user talk pages.

There are some restrictions to keep in mind:
*Keep content rated T or below. No NSFW content, gore/overly detailed violence, or otherwise strictly adult or perverse materials are allowed. Administration gets the final say as to what qualifies for being unacceptable.
*Keep media use limited. Users can upload any image they want, such as fan art or designs of gear, but they must actually be used in the context of a page. We won't host files just to host them—unused work will be deleted. Videos and audio are not permitted to be uploaded at this time, but the former can be embedded.
*No live roleplaying. Splatoon Fanon is more designed to be for more permanent released works as opposed to improvised material. Users are still free to develop, change, or expand content, but just not in short back-and-forth chat-style messages as roleplying tends to be. MediaWiki software isn't particularly equipped for this style of fanon, so it isn't a viable option for this site.
*Submit your own work. If someone else made an idea, wrote out a plot, or drew fan artwork, it shouldn't be added to this site without their full permission.
